Does anyone else think that young adults are?

buying too much into the "anxiety disorder" and "panic attack" as a serious pathology that needs medical intervention? Yeah, I know it's YA, but I can't help but wonder if the general population sees "anxiety" as a true disorder. I understand it's uncomfortable, but it's a **feeling**.
Does it really need to be medicated? A little therapy makes sense- taking a look into what might aggravate it and how to avoid getting locked into the cycle of self-obsession- but medication?

I'd love to hear any opinions on this. thanks y'all!

I've actually been treated for anxiety, and I agree with you. Treating what is essentially mental illness (although usually not too severe) with medication isn't a good idea, and people shouldn't see it as something that needs pills. 'Brain pills' are for people who have chemical imbalances, like if someone is bipolar or schizophrenic, not for people who had a bad experience that makes them go all weird.

If someone has panic attacks or severe anxiety, there's usually a very good reason, even if they don't know what it is yet. Talking about it with a professional who understands how our minds work is the best way to figure out what went wrong and how the person can make themselves feel better. In my case, it was a combination of my uncle being killed in an accident and having lots to cope with at university- bereavement counselling sorted me out, and now I'm mostly okay.

I think that medicating everything can actually make things worse in the long run for this kind of thing. The underlying causes of anxiety need to be found and removed, giving someone sedatives or whatever is just going to mask that rather than making it better. Panic attacks are incredibly scary, but learning what sets them off and trying to get over that will help someone so much more than filling them full of pills.
